Why I Changed My Mind About School Uniforms
For years I was firmly against school uniforms. They felt like a way to squash personality, and I said so loudly in every conversation about it.
What changed
I joined a debate here expecting an easy win. The person on the other side did not argue about style at all. She talked about mornings: how many parents were rushing, how many children felt judged by their shoes, and how much easier the day was when nobody had to think about it.
I had no good answer to that, because I had never thought about it from that side.
Where I am now
I still think schools should leave room for self-expression, for example on casual days. But I no longer think uniforms are the enemy. The strongest argument against my view was the one I had never bothered to look for.
If you disagree with me, I would genuinely like to hear your reasons in the comments.
